CEDAR KEY GARDENERS BUILD A BED
August 3, 2021
In the early morning hours of July w9, several devoted, energetic Cedar Key Community Gardeners built a new bed, replacing the six-year-old one in place.
Heavy rains, knotted wood, and years took their toll on the pressure treated hulk, lowering on its northeastern corner.
Community Garden friend Norm Hodges dismantled the old bed and hauled the parts away for recycling.
Joe and Bunny Hand ordered the new wood and precut all pieces, leaving only assembly necessary.
Then, John McPherson, Mike Snapper, Norm Hodge, Joe Hand, Loss Benninghoff, and Mandy Offerle built the bed, leveled it, and stood it upright.
Alas, a new bed!
Certainly not a one-man operation. A million thanks to the bed construction crew.

JULY IN THE GARDEN

July in the Cedar Key Community Garden proved delightfully wetter than the past several years. Resultantly, peppers and cucumbers are thriving, and flowers abound.

2020 JUNE
JUNE IN THE CEDAR KEY COMMUNITY GARDEN…PRETTY NICE
June has been a very warm month, but thanks to a newly broadened irrigation system inspired by Tom Deverin and actualized by Joe Hand and Doug Lindhout, all is well in the Garden.
The two new crepe myrtle trees planted this winter near the tool stand are blooming, as are their pink and white fellows along the center path.
While it is tough for venerable gardening in this heat, some beds continue to look lovely and flowers and caladium are rampant…though a bit exhausted late in the day.
Hope you enjoy a snapshot of the Garden in June. July pictures will be next.
